Arsenal confirm Aubameyang & Lacazette positive Covid tests

Arsenal confirmed that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette were positive Covid-19 cases prior to their Premier League opener last Wednesday.

Arsenal confirm Aubameyang & Lacazette positive Covid tests

Due to an unspecified illness, both men and Alex Runarsson, the backup goalkeeper, missed Arsenal’s 1-0 loss at Brentford on August 13.

After a negative test at the club’s most recent medical check, the Gunners now reveal that all three of their players have been diagnosed with coronavirus. Aubameyang will still be available to play against Chelsea on Sunday.

Arsenal has released an official statement containing an update on Gabon’s striker. It reads: “Auba tested positive to Covid-19 and was not available for Friday’s match at Brentford.

“Auba has now been negative for Covid-19 testing. He is doing well and following all protocols to return to play. He will be back in training and assessed before Sunday’s match.

Lacazette, Runnarson and Willian will not be able to make a return for the north London outfit against Chelsea at Emirates Stadium. Willian has also been doubtful after being their fourth player to sign Covid-19 in the last fortnight.

Alex was positive for Covid-19, and was therefore unable to attend the match at Brentford last Friday. The club statement states that Alex is still in recovery and will not be available to play for Sunday’s match.

“Willian also tested positive for Covid-19, and is following protocols. Before Sunday’s match, his health and fitness will all be assessed.

“All Premier League players and support staff are regularly tested for COVID-19 as part of the protocol.”

Arsenal lost to Brentford in the first game of the new season, making it the worst start to the season. This will be a concern to many supporters who were worried about the team’s inability to create clear chances without Lacazette and Aubameyang.

While the former could be back in action when Chelsea arrive at Emirates, the Gunners may still lack attacking options if Willian joins Lacazette for another week.

They could be out of Arsenal’s EFL Cup match against West Brom on August 25th depending on how their recovery goes. This is three days before MikelArteta’s side travel to Etihad Stadium in Manchester to face Premier League champions Manchester City.
