Philippe Coutinho has been informed by Barcelona that he is an important player in their team. They have also discussed the possibility of giving the No 10 shirt to the playmaker.
Coutinho’s future is in doubt and it has been suggested that he could leave the Nou Camp. Arsenal are also linked to the 29-year old.
The Spanish giants want the ex- Liverpool star to stay in Catalonia this season, which the player is well aware of.
Coutinho was offered the historic No 10 number by the club – it has just been vacated from the legend Lionel Messi.
Barca gave Coutinho the No 14 shirt last season. He made as many appearances as Ronald Koeman.
The Midfielder was stripped off his shirt last week due to rumours of interest from Lazio. His No 14 was given by Rey Manaj who was promoted from the B team.
Coutinho is not yet in a position to give the Brazilian a squad number for this season. However, the possibility of wearing Messi’s No. 10 jersey is appealing to him.
Lazio are reported to be interested to loan Coutinho, with the option of buying him permanently for PS25million.
According to Sky Sports reports, Barcelona was looking to sell the Brazilian player in a swap agreement with Arsenal. This would see Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Gunners captain, arrive at the Nou Camp.
Barca appears to be keen to retain the attacking midfielder, despite the transfer deadline of August 31.
