Fabinho to miss Liverpool’s clash with Burnley

Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool manager, has confirmed that Fabinho will not be playing in Saturday’s home match against Burnley because of a family tragedy.

Rebeca Tavares (the wife of the 27-year old Brazil midfielder) confirmed via social media that her husband had died.

Klopp stated that it was a private matter. Fab is still here, and he is doing the best he can. That’s about it.

We all feel for him. We all offered our condolences to him and his family. We tried to offer him all of the love and warmth that we could. Rest is private.

Klopp said that Jordan Henderson and Thiago alcantara could be back in action after they played in a behind-closed doors game against Aston Villa.

Both midfielders were unable to attend Carrow Road last Wednesday as they had returned late to preseason following their participation at Euro 2020.

They are much closer. They look great. Klopp stated that now we must make a decision. They looked great in the game, and in training. Now it’s up to me to make some important decisions.

Liverpool’s unbeaten home record of 68 games in the Premier League was ended by Burnley’s 1-0 loss in January. Klopp however insisted that it would not have any bearing on Saturday’s match.

He said, “Not in any moment, sitting there to be honest.” I didn’t even consider it. You have now told me that it was something you didn’t like.

It was a strange match. We lost the match, Burnley won it. That’s football, well-deserved. It has absolutely nothing to do now with the game.”

Klopp stated that he was happy to see fans back at Anfield and wasn’t looking for revenge against Sean Dyche.

Klopp stated, “We will do everything possible to get our first home game in front our crowd in 520-something day I think and that we want to enjoy that.”

“Football can only be enjoyed when it is played in a positive manner. There are no guarantees, especially against Burnley, which can make your life very difficult.

They are a good team with great footballers. Sean does a great job. They aren’t only annoying but also make good set-pieces and all that stuff.

“They have a clear style of playing so that’s what they prepare for, not any sort of revenge or whatever.”

Klopp confirmed that negotiations between Henderson and the club for a new contract are ongoing.
