FPL tips: Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes top manager shopping lists
Fantasy managers have been busy making moves in the transfer markets after an exciting opening weekend, which saw a lot of goals and lots of FPL points.
Here are some key points to remember as players are being moved hundreds of thousand of times into and out of squads each week.
Manchester United fans had no concerns about their midfield on Saturday, as Paul Pogba became the seventh Premier League player to score four goals in one match.
French star, Francoise Lafontaine, scored 16 points. Fantasy managers were not surprised to pay his PS7.6million FPL cost.
More than 430,000 managers have already brought him into their offices ahead of gameweek 2. This is more than any other player.
Pogba’s popularity has been closely followed by Bruno Fernandes, his Portuguese teammate (PS12.6million), who has been transferred in more than 320,000 times since his hat trick in the Red Devils’ 5-1 win over Leeds.
Said Benrahma, West Ham’s cheapest option, has also been admired – with over 180,000 transfers during this gameweek.
The game’s value is now at PS6.1m. 12 points were scored by the Algerian with a goal, assist, and goal in the Hammers 4-2 win over Newcastle.
A Belgian can earn a lot of money
It will not surprise anyone to learn that more than 220,000 managers have signed up Romelu Lukaku, Chelsea’s Belgian-born star.
The Inter Milan summer signing is not cheap at PS11.5m. However, he scored 24 goals last season in Serie A, and is already a proven goal scorer in the Premier League with Blues, Manchester United and Everton.
After scoring a goal and an assist in Everton’s 3-1 victory over Southampton, fellow Toffee Richarlison (7.6m), his ownership has soared.
There seems to be confusion or disagreement among the FPL community regarding forwards.
Danny Ings, Aston Villa’s PS8m, has been bought by more than 134,000 managers, but also by 99,000 after he scored from the penalty spot versus Watford.
Similar to Leicester’s Jamie Vardy (PS10.5m), both have been bought and sold more than 80,000 times, while Brentford’s Ivan Toney, (PS6.5m), has more than 90,000 ins.
Managers seem to be unsure about all three. Some managers want to bring in the star players of gameweek one, while others expect big things from them.
Option with low cost
FPL managers often look for ways to save millions in defense, and this season seems no exception.
Kostas Tsimikas will be filling in for Andy Robertson, Liverpool’s injured player. 230,000 managers are also unable to disagree with the PS4.1m price tag.
The Greek defender kept a clean sheet in gameweek 1. But, at the other end of this scale, Marcos Alonso from PS5.6m scored a goal during Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace.
The Spaniard was once a FPL favorite, scoring 177 points in 2016-17 season. He now seems to be looking to return to his glory days, and has more than 170,000 new owners.
It is interesting to note that Alonso’s teammate Ben Chilwell has been transferred out nearly as many (140,000 times). This suggests that Blues manager Thomas Tuchel doesn’t plan on rotating his left-backs.
