Pochettino could hand Messi his much-anticipated debut in Friday’s Ligue 1 game at Brest
Mauricio Pochettino, Paris Saint-Germain’s boss, has not ruled Lionel Messi out of Friday’s Ligue 1 match at Brest.
After leaving Barcelona due to financial difficulties, the six-time Ballon d’Or Winner, 34, joined PSG last week on a free transfer.
Messi did not attend Sunday’s PSG win over Strasbourg (4-2), as he continues to build up his fitness after his late return from pre-season training following the Copa America win by Argentina last month.
The 34-year old has also impressed his teammates in training this week.
Pochettino stated that he was still in contention to be in the match-day team against Brest on Friday.
Mauricio pochettino, boss of the team, stated that they have not yet decided on the squad. This was during a Thursday press conference.
“We will evaluate whether Messi can participate in it.
“Everything is positive. He has settled quickly and there is a positive atmosphere within the team. It is a great feeling.
L’Equipe, a French newspaper, reported that Messi had made an enormous impact on the players of PSG’s during his first training sessions.
L’Equipe was told by one player that “everything seems easy for him.”
Pochettino also dismissed rumors that Kylian Mbappe, France’s forward, could join Real Madrid this Summer.
Pochettino stated that Mbappe was our player and that he should be here this season.
“He still has one year on his contract. He is still a PSG player, even if he does not renew his contract. We are very happy with him and, from what I understand, he is pleased to be with us.
“He is calm and is preparing well for tomorrow’s match.”
