Top transfer bids in Europe over the past decade
There are many larger than life characters in world football. These men never seem to get forgotten due to their high transfer fees. Here’s a list of the top transfer bidders for European football over the past ten seasons.
2012-2013 Season: Thiago Silva has moved from AC Milan, to Paris Saint Germain, for EUR42.00 millions
At a time when European players were affordable, AC Milan’s core defensive and attack duo Thiago Silva, Ibrahimovic, and Silva moved to Paris. He was the highest transfer bidder at EUR42.00 million. Before 2015, Silva was the third most expensive defender, after Rio Ferdinand (EUR46 million) and David Luiz (EUR50 million). Silva was a key player in the club’s seven Ligue 1 titles and six French League Cups. He also helped them win seven Coupe de France titles. Silva’s excellent defense, great overview and reserved personality, which Silva developed in Brazil and Italy, helped him become the absolute leader of the defense line, as well as the captain of PSG.
Silva’s role at PSG is not as important as it was at Milan because of his leg injuries and age. Even before his departure, he didn’t have the full respect of his peers. Thiago Silva said to 442, “They didn’t even offer me an extension of my contract.” They didn’t even ask if they would like to keep you for one euro. ‘… It was terrible. They had three months to plan everything and the outbreak happened somewhere in between. They didn’t do anything. “I was the captain for eight years of the team, not someone who quits after one season. I also helped the team win trophies. I deserve more respect.”
2013-2014 season: Gareth Bale moves from Tottenham to Real Madrid, costing EUR101.00million
Bale was the Premier League player for the season 2012-2013 because of his outstanding performance and 21 goals, particularly the lightning speed. Bale’s transfer fees were confirmed at EUR100.8 million. This was more than the record fee that the club paid in 2009 for Cristiano Ronaldo. Bale continued to help Real Madrid win the Copa del Rey 2013-14 and UEFA Champions League 2013. His goal in the Copa del Rey final is another example of his lightning speed. He won the UEFA Super Cup, and then scored in a third major final for Madrid to win the FIFA Club World Cup. He was elected to the UEFA Squad of the Season two years later.
Bernabeu fans are often so critical of Bale’s performance. He has struggled to get enough playing time due to injury. His performance is not as good as it could have been, but he was under tremendous pressure. Bale was allowed to return to Tottenham last season on concession, continuing his outstanding form for Mourinho. What about his next days at Bernabeu? Fans are required to witness.
2014-2015 season: Luis Suarez moves from Liverpool to Barcelona, costing EUR81.72million
Luis Suarez, a Liverpool club record-holder, was sold to Barcelona in the summer 2014. Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez made 133 appearances in Liverpool’s first team. He scored an impressive 82 goals and received a respectable 29 assists. He was Anfield’s “Lovable Rogue” – Reds fans loved and rival fans loathed him.
Suarez was banned for his involvement in the World Cup’s tense event, but his goal scoring skills were on full display at Camp Nou. He was joined by Messi, Neymar, and Neymar in MSN. They helped Barcelona win La Liga, the Champions League, and Copa del Rey. A host of champions also came to Barcelona.
Suarez was eventually forced to retire from camp Nou due to Griezmann’s arrival. He also became less active as he grew older and moved to Atletico Madrid in 2020 at a very low cost. The Wanda Metropolitano saw the Uruguayan score a record number of goals.
2015-2016 Season: Kevin de Bruyne has moved from Wolfsburg into Man City for EUR76.00 millions
Although his time at Chelsea was not a success story, De Bruyne had risen to prominence and been praised by fans since his move to the Bundesliga. In July 2015, Manchester City bought him back to the Premier League for EUR76million. Guardiola’s tactics made the Belgian one of the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League. He helped the team win three Premier League titles, as well as the FA Cup and Carling Cup.
2016-2017 season: Paul Pogba was transferred from Juventus to Man United, for EUR105.00 millions
Pogba was a Manchester United academy player, but he transferred to Juventus free of charge in the summer 2012. With the help of Andrea Pirlo and Vic Vidal, Claudio Marchisio and Pavel Nedved he has become a world-class player in midfield. Although he has maintained a high level of performance since his return to Manchester United he was also an unstable player in the dressing room. Mourinho’s departure was clearly linked to him.
Pogba was a top-notch tackler with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Man United. But, it remains to be seen if he will be back as a source for uncertainty.
2017-2018 season: Neymar Da Silva moves from Barcelona to PSG, EUR222.00 Million
Four years ago, Neymar moved from Santos to Barcelona for a EUR81.72million transfer fee. The trio of Messi, Neymar and Suarez caught the eye of PSG.
The champion of France signed Neymar at a record EUR222million and lit up the Eiffel Tower.
2018-2019 season: PSG buys Kylian Mbappe, a Monacon, for EUR145.00 millions
Mbappe had been loaned by PSG to play in 2017-18. The 19-year-old supernova played 13 goals and scored 8 assists in Ligue 1 during that season. PSG bought Mbappe outright for EUR145 million after winning the FIFA World Cup.
Mbappe’s excellent dribbling, speed, passing and finishing skills, as well as his poise, have made him one of Europe’s most exciting young talents. He also helped PSG win the Ligue 1 title. Fans have also called him “Ninja Turtle”.
In recent years, Mbappe was heavily linked to a move from Real Madrid. But this summer Messi joined PSG. Could he still be leaving? Or become the legend of PSG, even the Ligue 1? It’s a valuable moment for fans to witness.
