Seeing the dog in pain, crying because he was suffering from some issue is probably one of the most difficult sights for true dog lovers.

Well, this is the everyday life of veterinarians who do this job because they feel immense love for these helpless beings.

At the same time, these noble people constantly have to make tough decisions that can sometimes bring them to the edge.

One veterinarian found himself in such a situation when an owner came to him with a difficult request.

Despite his longtime experience, it was not at all easy for him, but in the end, he made the best possible decision.

Dr. Oliver Reeve is a co-founder of Onewa Road Veterinary Hospital and an experienced veterinarian with years of practice.

Despite that, he was petrified one day when an owner came to him with his seven-week-old puppy with a request to euthanize him. Namely, this Golden Doodle named Toby had a birth defect and that was the main reason for such a request.

Although Dr. Reeve himself was 𝕤Һoᴄҡed, as many of you are as you read this, he wasn’t willing to judge this man because he knew how difficult it was to make such a decision.

“The main point is that the owner sought veterinary care for a puppy that was in pain. It was brave of them to come to the clinic and request euthanasia,” the doctor told Newsweek. “I’m sure it was a very difficult situation for them, but they took responsibility and sought appropriate care. That is something I respect and it is far, far better than people who just dump unwanted animals.”

Quickly after the request that 𝕤Һoᴄҡed him, Dr. Reeve regained his composure and was able to come up with a potential solution for this heartbreaking problem.

Dr. Reeve didn’t want to reveal exactly what defect Toby had. However, he did reveal that after much thought, he realized that he could help him solve it

The doctor thought he could fix this puppy’s defect and was 100 percent sure that his wife would not mind having another pet in addition to the dog, cat, rat, and three rabbits that he had already rescued.

That’s why he offered this dog’s owner the option of handing Toby over to him instead of euthanizing him. It wouldn’t cost him anything, and this beautiful puppy would continue to live. To his great delight, the owner immediately accepted the offer.

“Surrender is not often an option, many times vet clinic staff are tapped out with the number of animals they’ve already adopted, but that day was Toby’s lucky day,” Dr. Reeve happily concluded.

That same evening, Toby arrived at his new home, where his new family welcomed him with open arms. Soon after that, he had two surgeries that ended successfully

“The definitive surgery will have to wait until he’s older and more grown,” Dr. Reeve said with an optimistic tone in his voice.

In just a few days, from a puppy destined for euthanasia, Toby turned into a joyful pup with a bright future, all thanks to a man who values every life equally – Dr. Oliver Reeve.

This kind-hearted veterinarian already had big plans for his new pet – he assigned him the role of “a vet’s dog,” which means that Toby would come to work with him at the clinic where “he will be doted on and lovingly smothered by a range of vets and nurses at work.”

At home, he intended to teach him not to chase rabbits, and in the meantime, he introduced him to his other dog, Danni, which he posted on his X account @FeltonR. They immediately became friends and it was a true joy seeing them together.

In the end, Dr. Reeve was more than happy that everything played out well for this dog and that it was his great decision that contributed to it.

Although it is his job to make good decisions for the welfare of these furry beings, this one turned out to be the most special of all.
