Twitter agrees to open office in Nigeria as ‘ban’ will be lifted soon
On Wednesday, the Federal Government announced that Twitter had agreed to open a Nigerian office in 2022.
After briefing State House correspondents after the virtual Federal Executive Council (FEC) ended, Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture made this public.
He said that the federal government’s interaction with Twitter has been positive and without any animosity. They would lift the ban on Twitter operations in the nation “in a matter days”.
The Minister stated that Twitter has made it clear what they want. The end of amicable resolution seems very near.
“We are grateful for the patience shown by Nigerians. We have made tremendous progress, I can assure you. We met with Twitter both in person and via writing. We are almost there.
“They (Twitter), have been very flexible, and the conversation has not been tense.”
Mohammed said that while there were still some areas where they had not reached an agreement, Twitter agreed to open offices in the country by 2022.
