Which national team has the highest number of the African cup of nations?

Perhaps this is the question most fans of  African football would likely ask! The answer is EGYPT!


The Egypt Egyptian national team colloquially known as the pharaohs have 7 CAF nations cup in their record, making them the most successful team in CAF.


They clinched the trophy in 1957, 1959, 1986, 1998, 2006, 2008, and 2010.

They made it to be runner-ups in 1962 and 2017. Third place in 1963, 1970, and 1974, they also emerged fourth in  1976, 1980, and 1984 CAF nations cup tournament.


Egypt is the first African nation to qualify for the FIFA World cup. They were the pioneers of CAF formation in 1957.

They had their first international game in 1928 which culminated in a 2-1 defeat. They faced Italy again in 1928, the match culminated in an infamous 11-3 defeat for Egypt. Egypt had their biggest win in 1963 when they trashed Laos 15-0. They were among the African teams to enter the top 10 teams in the world alongside Cameroon and Nigeria.


Despite the team’s success stories, they were not able to win a match in the FIFA world cup tournament. Egypt holds the record of having the oldest player in a football tournament being Essam El-Hadary who was 45 at that time. The Pharaohs had one of the trailblazing players in European football, being Mohammed Sallah.


Cameroon was second to Egypt in the record of CAF nations cup won. Cameroon had 5, making them the second successful team in Africa. Egypt had its last CAF nations cup trophy in 2010 and was a runner-up in the 2017 edition of the tournament. It has faced many challenges in recent years, but we look forward to its rebound.
